Just wondering if there are any Pitts owners who are located in Australia.

I am keen to talk with and discuss options of build/buy with any Aussie forum members.

Whilst I am based in Victoria I am more than happy to fly to visit....

Hey Aussiekid

I am in Canberra, have an S1-D (being repaired), S1-S wings will be going on it shortly, a 1XS being built by Rob at Raven and a 2XS under construction in my little tiny garage.

Importing is a pain in the backside and the dollar has dropped a bit, there are some good aircraft for sale at the moment.  Stu from NZ will sell you his for around $20m USD, worth every penny.

It depends what you are looking for and what your budget it.  I have imported a few aircraft from the US and can help you through the process.

If you have the budget, I would strongly recommend a Raven 2XS kit or scratch build off the plans when they are available.  I will have a container coming from Rob in the next few months, you could fit a kit in there.

Take a look at Stu's website, lots of detail on his build and it will give you a good idea on what is involved in scratch building.

Macwolf. Thanks for the reply. I guess I am hot rodder from way back and the appeal of the Pitts and Steen Aero get me every time. I have built Street Rods, AC Cobras and currently own a classic 65 Mustang convertible and a Ford GT40. You see a Cessna would not be my thinking!! However you do not step out of the family sedan into a GT40. So I want to gather a lot of info. prior to ensure I am on the right path!! Things like - will I be able to fly this? Will I fit? Etc. Etc. So thanks for the feedback and of course the forum. I am active on clubcobra as BMK on the Australian forum and have photos of my cars in my gallery there, if anyone is interested?? Again thanks for the response and the guide through this entirely new process...I will keeping searching and doing my homework.

Andrew thanks for the links etc. Being brand new to this I am asking a lot of questions - my nature!! I think the next step will be a flight to Sydney to take a Pitts flight to gather more info. and see if this is the direction I want to go - guess to ensure I am not getting out oft depth!! Being brand new to all this ..however I put my mind to something and go hard at it.

Sounds cool with the cars, I will have to take a look.  If your interested in a 1970 Dodge Challenger, 340 with A66 package let me know.  Reuires full resto but these things arent too common.  Will be coming out from Canada in a few months.

As far as a Pitts flight goes, head on over to Oxford Aviation in Morrabin, they have an S2A online there.  Camden would be your best bet in Sydney, Curtis Aviation have a B and Airborne Aviation has a C.  I fly the C quite a bit and would be happy to take you up in it.  The C in better than the A or B in my personal opinion.

Can I ask the difficulties that have been encountered while importing a pitts. I am thinking of purchasing either an S1 or S2A in the US and importing to Australia.
At the moment the $is great and prices seem quite resonable in the US.
I'm thinking finding an airframe with no damaged history is the prob and being certain it will pass inspection here in CASA land with minimal costs.

any 2cents?
