 Topic: rebuild g meter? Posted: Jul/15/2010 at 03:11 |
Does anyone know if a g-meter can be sent in to be rebuilt? I have one in each cockpit and they are both broken. The cheapest I can find them is the falcon meters from spruce for like $360 each.
thanks guys!

Hi Shawn:
I have had two G-meters that have not worked. Not too surprisingly one didn't work after it was submerged in a river and left in the hangar for a couple of years. This one was corroded beyond repair.
The second one I opened and found that the cord that drives the needles was broken. I found some similar cord and reassembled the meter.
Try opening it up, from memory, they are not too complicated.

I have had good luck buying overhauled, certified 3 1/8" G Meters from Century Instruments. They do a great OH and look like new with new dials, pointers, and glass. The last one I bought was about $375 a few years ago. You can reach them at
316.683.7571.

Considering the G-meter is the single most important instrument for acro (right in there with your altimeter), why take chances? Just spend the money for a new one.....

Just a note to the newly's---there is a screw (or knob) that locks the mechanism of the G meter --make certain it is released before swinging it around on the end of a looped belt to see if it really works!! Jerry

I would be as comfortable with a rebuild from Rudy's as with a new one. If I had one that was a known quanity I would be inclined to try the other one myself.
