I have been working on the plane since 2007 and I always relied so much on the help of more experienced people that I was more in a learning than posting mode. I figure it is high time to pose some of my work.

The instruments in the front are a simple airspeed, altimeter, tach, compass, and a slip ball, they also serve as backups to the rear panel which is all electronics. In the rear I have a Dynon D100 for the EFIS (plus the autopilot module and two servos), D10 for the EMS, an MGL for the comm radio, a Microair transponder and a docking bay for the 496 which will probably end up in the front cockpit and a new Garmin touch screen will go in this dock, same size so I can trade out at any time. The electrical panel is a Composite designs one that made life allot easier, the battery is a odyssey mounted with their bracket on the seat back. The trim is a Ray Allen trim servo controlled from the stick and displayed on the Dynon. It was allot to fit in one panel but thanks to a brilliant machinist friend I got it all planned out to the mm. Also, the master and alternator breaker are on a mini panel that mounts on the inst panel.

Scott,
Advice from an old EAA guy, 67, do not order any more items that are subject to old age or AD notes until closer to flying.

PS; i had a friend that paid extra to have his plans airmailed to him so he could start right away, that was 30 years ago.

The panel in the plane;

Panel under construction:

One of the auto pilot servos, I found a place for these under the forward floorboard. They only weigh about 5 Lbs total and I saved that much by making composite floorboards and seatbacks, zero penalty 2 axis AP.

The front panel;

The center section on and aligned for mounting the wings to fab the I struts;

Trim servo location;

Fabric going on fuselage, sorry these are in such random order but I am going through them as they are ordered on my server.

Battery mount on seatback;

The fuselage coming out the paint booth. Our chapter built this a year ago when a member had to recover his Eagle. He figured it was cheaper to build a booth and donate it than it was to send it out to get painted.

Saved a bit of weight in several places, I made my throttle quadrant mounts out of much thinner skeletonized 4130;

Fuselage primed and painted after welding was finished.

Fabric on fuselage after tapes were applied.

Fuselage with turtle deck finished;

Scott,
You are doing really good to get that far in 3 years!
i like the dark paint, what is the final paint scheme?
From your first post i thought you had just built the panel.

yep....... im jeleous, haha! nice work. on the pics with your wings attached, from what i see it looks like you put the drag/anti drag wires on the chord line of the wing like christian and myself did. am i seeing things or is this how you installed them? this has been a topic of debate on our builds...... thanks and she looks great! im torn between 2 paint schemes that i like right now, one being all black and yours may sway me that way, real nice.

From your first post i thought you had just built the panel." Ha, sometimes is feels like I am at the stage of having just one part done. My work schedule is 4 days on and 4 days off and I try to put in 8 hours every day I am off so I probably have 4,000 hours in, you would think I would have finished. I work in space flight so parallel engineering is a way of life for me, if the glue on a rib is curing I am welding up an elevator. The major tasks I have remaining is completing the firewall forward (exhaust, prop, and making my hoses) and the canopy. I built in the mounting pads for two different types of canopies. This month the I struts will be done and I can commence covering and painting the wings. The paint scheme is lifted from a favorite pinball machine in my collection. On the fuselage there will be a blue stripe with a red zigzaging line running down the blue line. On the wings there will be blue rings going outward from the center, all the elements are in this photo of the game : As for the drag wires, yes they are on the chord line. I had gathered the plans, build book, and as many of the newsletters as I could find and they all cited that location. Then, after everything was done someone uploaded more of the newsletters to the forum here and I saw the debate. Given that Paul has said both are fine, and that both are out there flying for decades, I am not too worried.

Guys please don't hot link images. http://biplaneforum.com/hotlinking.asp
They are cool, tho. Flamini PM me with your specific issue of uploading more than one image to a post. If need be for now, upload an image per post. That way we will never have potentially broken future links.
I am drooling over the tailwind....

Mmmm, drool..... black paint schemes! Have you installed the aileron pushrods, bellcranks and idlers in the lower wing with no clearance issues yet? That's what I'm worried about.

Scratch other than I picked up a Wag-Aero (as I was told) fuselage that was welded and sitting in primer. I initially thought that would be a huge time saver, turns out it is a fairly small factor.

I have a similar situation... using a 75 salvaged fuselage, but having changed it so much due to bits I didnt like, I sometimes wished I had built a fresh one.
you have made good pace.

Fortunately I didn't have to change much, but I have since done a fuselage on another plane and was surprised at how fast the structure came together, about 2 weeks and we had the thing done. It looks like a great deal of progress but is deceptive.

It seems that I found out about the molded plywood and all those other options after I went through the insane process of forming the leading edges the old way. But at least I learned something.

Hey Scott maybe you missed my post above....... with the wires on the chord line do they get in the way of any aileron pushrods?
