Hi everybody,
I think of getting magnesium wheels for my bird. Do they have any disadvantage compared to aluminum wheels except price and corrosion?
Well, my bird is not based on an aircraft carrier and I live quite far from the sea. So I think corrosion is not a problem. Correct?
Best to all of you, Bjorn

I was stuggling with this decision as well. I live in an area where we get alot of snow in winter and was worried about corrosion caused by the salt they use to melt ice on roads and runways. (I know that they are not supposed to use salt on runways, but I've seen the city's salt trucks clearing the runway at my local airport and I wouldn't be suprised if they are using road salt.)
Based on my research, I concluded that aluminum wheels are only needed when they are on an amphibious plane, especially when used in salt water.
Here is a good calibration point: A Cessna 172 uses magnesium wheels, and these planes fly in all sorts of climates all over the world without excessive wheel corrosion issues.
