So I've begun work on my ailerons. Got my rib jig made and went to use a slice off the spar on the jig. Imagine my surprise when it wasn't tall enough. The plans call for 2 -1/2 inches in height on the "high side" of the angles. Well on my rib template they are 2 -5/8 inches tall. So looks like ill be ordering a set of spars being that I planned them already......... ish

Chris,
We just finished the last two ailerons today.
When you put the false rib shown 2" from hinge center it would be better to move it 2 1/2 to 3" from the hinge to clear the hard to bend 1/4" thick 2024 alum slave strut bracket. It also needs to be same outline as std rib, our Wag Aero kit had them 1/4" gap to plywood that we had to fill.
Check with other builders to see if they had the same problem.

Looks like the 2" dimension will work, i will check it with slave strut  in place. 2nd photo is bottom of right wing. Bottom photo is top of lower right aileron without alum. slave strut fitting in place

thanks dennis, but what im looking for is the height of the actual spar itself, without the caps on it.  the plans say 2 1/2 inches the jig shows 2 5/8.

Chris;
i always assume i am wrong and the guy that drew it was right....
See the sketch i drew from an M6 airfoil plot from the UIUC aero eng. site.
i layed out the M6 airfoil over the plans aileron drg and was surprised at how close they were. If you want to mess with it in AutoCad i will send you the file.
i  used the 14 1/4" chord aileron for the sketch but my ailerons were built from the old plans at about 15" chord. The best i can tell is 2 1/2" should work, measured off my plans looks like 2 9/16". You could bury the extra by starting your bevel a little long, the small opening it will leave at the capstrip won't matter since there is so much other stuff glued there.

Well, the EAA bipe I am restoring has 2 5/8" aileron spars. Not that they are exactly the same airplanes but come from the same lineage.
