This sub forum may take a while to populate, unless you experienced guys feel like posting a write-up of your previous projects...don't forget the pics ;-)

I don't know if a Kitfox will fit the profile, being a monowing!
and the dreaded KIT (not plans built :)
This is what took me 5 years and this is what I have to play about in while working on the bolt.
Eric.

Eric
You should post a few pictures of it in a gallery. One of the members of my EAA Chapter built an Avid Flyer. He's about to make a few improvements to it.
Did building the Kitfox help you out building the Skybolt ?
Beej... is this topic easy to find for someone that's just joining ? I remember you posting it and have forgotten about it already. Maybe a link on the front page to it. ??? Just a suggestion.

It has its own sub forum, thus is listed on the front page. Why would you think newcomers would use it when we have 250+ and no one did? ;-)
Kitfox: Tell us about it!
<and the dreaded KIT (not plans built :)>
If I built a 'kit', I would post it with pride.
Hey Randy, why don't you give us a write up on your previous builds...say, a paragraph on each, would be interesting...
Also, for those who bought a bipe, you could tell us a little about it...specs, what you do with it, improvements made etc...

"Eric

Help me someone! If I could figure out how to set up a gallery I could send some pictures.
In the meantime, this is a picture of the Kitfox not long after I completed it. Still doing taxi practice, trying out the tailwheel steering. One high speed taxi exersize, I almost pooped myself...I had lift off! for a second or two. So I imediately taxied back to the ramp, closed down and needed to take a break.
Eric.

John you asked for this,
This is my first airplane project. A modified Sonerai II. I began building while I was learning to fly and I had less than 75 hours in my log book when I did the test flights. The first test flight was unintentional, a taxi test turned test flight, but all went well and I made the best 3 point landing of my life at the end of that first flight. The first engine was a 2180cc VW conversion. Take off roll was reasonably short for this type aircraft and climb was about 1,000 fpm. Temperature problems led me to build a smaller engine and the performance dropped somewhat, but I really liked the airplane. I used it to develop a tuning method for the Posa Carburettor and sold metering rods to builders all over the world.
I sold the airplane in 1989 and the new owner crashed it after doing EXACTLY what I told him NOT to do. The last I heard of it, a third owner is rebuilding it somewhere in Illinois.

Actually it is my third. I had a little Lite Plane similar to a J-3 Kitten. What got me started was making parts for a friends F4F Wildcat and P-40E. He also had a S1S Pitts. I liked it but figured I should start out with a little tamer airplane. I stopped at a Convenience store one night and saw a Homebuilt Aircraft magazine (before Kitplanes) with a Sonerai on the cover and liked it. I had always been a big fan of formula I and Steve Wittman and the Sonerai had the look. I originally wanted to build a S2E Pitts(180hp fixed pitch). I had talked to Curtis and at the time (1982) he told me it was the most pleasant to fly (least demanding) of all his designs but you couldn't buy plans anymore. I had considered the Acro II before the Sonerai because it was as close to the S2E as I could find but I knew the Sonerai would be a faster and more economical build.
