Hi all,
I'm rebuilding a Cap 21, a French single-seat aerobatic bird which is entirely built from wood. I'm working on some repairs on the belly and have found that it's sheeted with what appears to be 0.070in-thick 3-ply mahogany plywood. All 3 plies appear to be mahogany - not a poplar core which seems to be more common these days. Being French, I expected it to be metric wood, but most of the dimensions are actually round inches and 0.070" is on the MIL-P-6070 spec, so I think that may be correct. Otherwise, it's right in between 1.5mm and 2mm.
I've been scouring the internet for a few days and haven't been able to find this material. I've found some so-called 1/16", but not sure what the true dimension is. The 3/32" "mahogany" ply I got from ACS (which I didn't realize had a poplar core) is really over 0.100", so maybe suppliers just call it 1/16" and it's really made to the .070" spec?
In any case, can anyone point me to a source for 0.070" Mahogany plywood?
Thanks!
RJ
