As usual one thing leads to another. I wanted to make the gear fairings before I mounted the gear. This has lead to decisions being made about brake pedals, brake lines, master cylinders, brakes and finally wheels. Check my work. All input welcome.
Fairings are going to be aluminum due to the 540. I am aiming for a single piece wrapped around and secured by screws into nut plates or tinnermans.on the inside. The top tube is smaller in diameter, so I will have to do something to prevent the fairing from moving down. I will put chaff tape on the legs. From is just taped on for pattern making. I know Pitts used foam blocks in there to prevent oil canning, but it apparently gets oil soaked and a mess. I will add at least one stiffer towards the top and possibly another lower down.
The old brake lines used a combination of flex line and hard line. I would like stainless braid with only one piece from master to the brakes. Less connections is less chance of leaks. Stainless I know must be protected from rubbing on anything, so the opening at the bottom of the leg will be bigger than l would like. There is a mount at the top of the leg for a connection, so a grommet of some sort will be needed.
The calipers I want to rotate to the forward position to help keep them out of the turf. Either I have to cut and rotate the mounts or drill some new holes.
I am making most of this up as I go along, so better, simpler cheaper thoughts are very welcome!
