I noticed something last night about Pitts wings that had not occurred to me before. Pitts wings only have front flying wires. I thought wire-braced biplanes always had flying wires on both front and rear spars to handle torsion loads. How does the Pitts do it - are the torsion loads transferred through the struts, and then reacted into the drag/anti-drag wires? Is this part of the reason the drag/anti-drag wire blocks tend to shear or compress?
Just a random curiosity that came to mind while I probably should have been thinking about something else.
Thanks!
