A friend at work who works on all of our ATCALS equipment turned me onto ADSB-In for home use. He uses a TV tuner and free software. He showed me it in operation and it's pretty neat. From his den, he see's aircraft withing about a 75 nm area. He's in the planning stages of mounting an antenna on his roof which he says should give him 150nm coverage.
He's into this for about $20 (not including his android tablet)
here are the links he provided for the hardward.
The software is apparently free.
