I opted not to cover my I-struts (ok I admit I didn’t know I needed to), and the airplane is now in final assembly. I hate the thought of taking them off and the month or more delay it will pose to cover and paint them.
I am ok with them visually being uncovered but am wondering if the drag will be severe. Years ago I watched an old NACA film about the drag difference between a round rod and a faired rod of the same frontal area. The difference is huge. But since the skybolt is such a draggy airplane anyway is this really a concern I should worry about?
Should I fly it and see what happens, or will I regret it? I may not know much even then, because each airplane flies differently enough. Anyone ever seen a skybolt fly naked like this.?
