A month or so ago I was reading the fuel tank/flop tube thread.
My plane has a flop tube but no inverted oil or fuel. It looked like trouble brewing. I decided to take it out at my inspection early Sept. As you can see in the photos the tip has a lot of wear. I have no idea what the inside of the tank looks like as I could not see in there even with a match. If I was installing a flop tube I would tack a thick plate in where the tube rubs. The tank has 300 hours.
The tube was replaced with a steel tube that stops about an inch from the bottom of the tank. The IA is an old codger with tons of experience. He was impressed when I showed it to him. He wanted to know how I knew to check that. Biplane Forum was the reply. The plane first flew in 1990 so the tube is older than that. It is nice stainless braid but it does not unscrew from the tip. It has stiffened since I took it out. It is going in the trash unless someone wants it for shipping.
