100th anniversary of first transatlantic flight: On June 14, 1919, Captain John Alcock and Lieutenant Arthur Whitten Brown departed from St. John’s, Newfoundland, in an open cockpit Vickers Vimy biplane and landed at Clifden, Ireland, 16.5 hours later. This flight was a gamechanger—it marked the first-ever non-stop flight across the Atlantic Ocean by air. This historic accomplishment changed the world and paved the way for commercial air travel. Happy 100th Alcock and Brown!
