I have a Skybolt that my brother in law started yrs ago that is getting close, he brought it to me to finish a number of yrs ago! It has an O-540 235 hp with inverted fuel and oil the engine has about 500 hrs SMOH, but there are no log books! It has a 760 channel radio and a KT-76 A transponder! But still has all kinds of work that needs to be done wing root fairings gear doors cabane fairings and spinner nut plates, and the paper work! It is an aerobatic airplane with inverted fuel and a christian inverted oil system! I have all of the required paperwork 8130-6, 8130-12 and 8050-3. I also know that I need all of the markings and placards as well as a current weight & Balance where it will be inspected and the requested test area.

My question is regarding documentation, as it was started back about 1994 when not a lot of documentation was required! He my brother in law has some 35 MM pictures but not a lot of written documentation, as he spent almost three yrs in Germany and has since moved and cannot find some of the receipts or written log entries! He brought it to me in 2005 and I finished up the wings covered and painted plumbing wiring and did this along with a lot of rework and have a fairly good builders log and digital pictures from that time on and I think this will easily cover the 51 % rule?

Has anyone gone through a similar situation recently, and if so what was your experience? I realize that each DAR may or may not be different or perhaps a bit anal as to just what is required, but thought that this could be a question others have or might have to face? Dave
