I've replaced rear spar and aileron on right lower wing of an early S1-C (upper wing span 208, lower wing 185.5 from plan set), but in drilling for aileron hinges and bellcrank I notice that the hinge design of original only allows for about 18 degrees of up-aileron. However, I can't find on the early plan set anything about aileron deflections. On the later S1-C with nearly equal upper and lower wings I see 25 up/23 down, but that is a different airplane.
I know that the limiting factor for me was legs against the fuselage, so full stick deflection hit my legs. I don't think the ailerons were hitting stops or other limits to their deflection. Not sure if full travel on the stick will allow more that the 18 degrees or so up.
Anyone know if this early design used less deflection or what that deflection should be? The plane has been fun to fly so I won't be re-designing anything, especially after reading an earlier thread about aileron deflection. Just wondering if original builder did it right.
