I am using strap hinges for my Skybolt elevator and rudder. Plans built gap is 3/8”. I have yet to drill my attach bolt holes in the straps. Researching gap seal products on ASnS, theirs specifies at least a 1/8” gap for their seal to work. So when I weld the inner hinge guides, I’ll make them the appropriate thickness to accommodate a proper gap. My question is, would it be acceptable to reduce the gap to 1/4“, or less?
