Hello,
is here anybody having experience with Ellison TBI's on a Lycoming engine and unleaded fuel? Looks like the future of Avgas is very much in question here in the EU and as far as I know it's not sure if we will be able to buy Avgas in a couple of years and if so maybe at a even more rediculous price.
My Pitts flies with Avgas all the time, but I'm thinking about the possibility to use unleaded fuel.
My Lycoming is std. compression, so there should be no problem with the lower octane rate. We can buy E0 unleaded fuel at our airport, so there should be no problems with gaskets etc. And there are not so many gaskets in the classic Pitts setup and no tank sealer to worry about.
My concern is the higher risk of vapor lock and not having a electric fuel pump makes me worry even more (classic wobble pump). When taxiing after landing on a very hot summer day the engine will not idle great...I assume this is some sign of too hot fuel and I guess this effect will be even worse when using non Avgas fuel. My guess now is that this problem mostly comes from the non cooled engine driven fuel pump. Adding a blast tube and maybe shroud wouldn't be too difficult. Any other guesses where to look at?
Ellison wrote on his website to only use Avgas...anybody know why that is? Fear of Ethanol fuel? Liability fears? Or are there other points I missed?
Regards
Patric
