Ran the engine on my project this last Tuesday. Fellow biplane builders, Bernie (ACSII) and Shelton (Pitts) kept me from doing anything REAL stupid. Went well but had some loose fuel fittings and had to jump start it after running down the battery. Bernie asked, "Is the fuel selector on?"Starts much easier when it gets fuel
Glad I had all of the sheeting off to see things. All engineinstruments work and the feeling was incredible. This is a thirteen year project. Yeah - I know that's a long time. The next biplane won't take near as long! Some specifics...
IO-360-B4A (zero time)
EW dry metal prop is 1103
EW dry wood prop is 1085
The airplane hasa wing tank, inverted oil, and a smoke system.
Decided on metal prop for friendlier CG and shorter flyoff time.
I expect the weight to grow another 5 lbs or so with the addition of javelins and slave strut ballast.
Tomorrow I move it toKGPM with the help of about ten friends. FAA inspection will be mid September as the DAR is out of town till then. Just allows that much more time to get things right!
