As the title suggests, Who here has gone from flying a tri gear Cessna/Piper type monoplane to flying an S1 Pitts or similar without much other tailwheel experience? I'm looking at doing dual time with Budd Davidson in his S2A before attempting to solo the S1. Do most people do initial tailwheel time in a Citabria or the like before tackling Pitts training? I have heard both sides of the story, some people have told me the S2 will be too touchy to get straight into and other have said things like Citabrias make people complacent when going into the Pitts. I really am unsure at this point.
I'm a 160Hr PPL pilot who hasn't flown anything except tin can tri gears. As some of you know I bought an S1 project about 3 years ago as a basket case. I've since had it restored and its now ready to fly. Now I need to become competent before flipping my 3 year long dream into a pile of scrap metal and wood splinters.
I'm keen to hear peoples thoughts. If you had your time again what would you do different?
