Fuel siphon problem

Question: I was out yesterday doing some aerobatics and came back in and fueled up. Filled it right up as I have many times in the past. I put the gas cap back on and put the hose away. When I returned to the aircraft the fuel was pissing out of the vent full blast. I probably had a quart or more on the concrete. I released the fuel cap and the fuel stopped coming from the vent. Is this normal, can't say that I ever had it happen before in any aircraft I've owned. I started to wonder about the flop tube but none of those thoughts made any sense. Anybody have any ideas on why this happened?????
