My friend recently acquired a 70's vintage, factory S1S.
On the belly about mid way back is a quite large gacolator that protrudes a good 5" below the fuselage.
It seems to me any mishap involving the belly contacting the ground would almost assuredly produce a fuel fire. I understand gascolators need to be at low points but having a exposed fuel source in an area that could be scraping along the ground ...doesn't seem wise.
Is there a work around for this? Seems like extremely low hanging fruit (no pun intended) to harvest in the area of safety improvement.
