I have gathered some Haigh tailwheel parts with the help of members here on the forum . Now I'm needing opinions on a path forward in assembling them . The parts consist of a tapered rod spring and a (what I refer to as a knuckle) that is the pivot point for the fork . As far as I can identify , both are Stainless . The knuckle will not attract a magnet but the rod spring will . Obviously , two different grades of SS . My first approach was going to be , weld the holes in the knuckle , rheme for the spring , relocate , and redrill for the pin and replace with a tapered pin . I really know very little about metal grades and the effects of welding but I guess I'm looking for poinions on just welding the spring in the knuckle by setting both parts in a jig for alignment , weld through the four holes and a small bead around the spring and the knuckle . My thoughts are , every piece of the knuckle is joined with a Tig weld , so afterthought is , ask for opinions . The forum has always helped me get off of high center , so once again (help is needed) Thanx in advance
