How much do the HC2YK series Hartzell constant speed props, like those used on Pitts S2A's and Christen Eagles weigh? The type certificate says 55lbs. Is that a real number?
The reason that I ask is that I've read several reports that switching from the Hartzell to a Whirlwind 200C or MT two blade prop saved them 20-25lbs. The Whirlwind 200C weighs 47lbs according to their website. If the Hartzell weighs 55lbs then that's only an 8lb weight savings......... something seems off, but maybe I'm missing something.
Maybe the Whirlwind weight includes the governor and the Hartzell weight does not?
Also, has anyone heard or experienced how the new Whirlwind 200AC does? They look really good.
