I just purchased a sweet S-1C with an O-320 which does not have an electrical system. I am considering installing a B&C starter and a battery. No alternator. I haven't yet taken measurements, and was wondering whether I should be able to use the same nose bowl and engine cowl. In other words, is there enough room for the ring gear inside the nose bowl. I suspect I'll have to modify the front of the cowl/nose bowl to make room for the starter bulge. Obviously, I'll measure things later on, when I get more serious about the modification, but was just curious if anyone else duplicated what I plan. This is not a critical issue. I can prop it in the meantime as it has been started for its entire life.
