My Sigtronics SPA-400 intercom seems to have died. This was a $50 ebay purchase and I am considering how best to proceed.
I wired the intercom up in such a way that my sticks had both push to transmit and a push to intercom switches on each stick. Here is how I did that.
Push to transmit switch - closes an NO switch in series to the mic while simultaneously closing the regular push to transmit circuit.
Push to intercom switch - closes an NO switch in series to the mic.
This is an unconventional wiring of the intercom and Sigtronics advised me that I would be getting a "pop" over the headset whenever I pushed the buttons. This would be caused by the in series NO mic switch. Could this cause a failure of the intercom though?
If I can't figure out what is wrong with the intercom, the next two options I am considering...
1. Replace the intercom with the same type... probably another ebay purchase.
2. Replace the intercom with a Sigtronics high noise environment intercom that has a push to intercom feature designed into it. From the schematics though it looks as though keying either of the push to intercom buttons will open both mics... wouldn't this lead to unnecessary noise in the headset?
Thoughts?
Thanks,
Glenn
