Pacific island supply during WWII,
On October 8, a combination of bad breaks caught up with TWA veteran Maj. Kimball. Ceiling and visibility were 50 ft. and less than a mile. Kimball volunteered to take a heavy load out. But instrument skill gained in more than 8,000 flight hours didn't offset the hazards for "Skip" Kimball that night. He crashed into a mountain a half mile from the base. The rusty, crushed shell of his ship remains where it hit. On approach charts the jagged mountain is now "Kimball Hill."

How can you not be romantic about biplanes.
