Leaning for Pax Power

I think I've heard some of you acro guys refer to "leaning for max power" before starting a sequence. While I understand the concept, I can't quite connect that with the advice in some engine manuals to not lean above 75% power. Is it simply a matter of somewhat sacrificing engine welfare for max acro oomph, or is there more to it I'm not seeing?

Details and/or techniques appreciated. Still learning (leaning?) after all these years.
