Is the Lycoming sump(or Oil pan) on an O-320/360 series a Structural Item? or is considered to be one?
I'm looking at ways of getting some weight out of the engine and I was considering a Aluminum sheet metal style fabrication. If the sump is structural then fabricating a sheet one may not result in little, if any, savings.
Cold air to be used in conjunction with.
