Greetings from the UK. We're rebuilding an SA300 that was damaged in a ground loop incident. As a result of this one main gear leg was effectively written off. The rebuild has used both legs from another aircraft, which differ slightly from the originals. The 'new' legs do not have any form of fairing / covering over the triangular area between the main down tubes. From various pictures of Stardusters all over the world it appears that there are various options. Some have quite elaborate folded metal coverings, some have fabric coverings and quite a few nothing at all. My question is - does covering this area add anything in the way of stability or other benefits, or is it just cosmetic ?
