This may be a known issue to some but I thought I would post this as a safety item to inspect for.
I was replacing a tube in a Maule P8 tailwheel yesterday. Upon disassembly, I noticed cracks in the wheel at the bolt holes.
I was unable to determine the exact cause, but I believe that there was debris caught between the halves the last time it was assembled. Then when the bolts were torqued, the bolts tried to close the gap created by the debris - pulling the aluminum inward and resulting in the cracks. My guess, anyway.
