This picture is the solid Maule tailwheel on our S-2B. It's had this uneven wear pattern since we bought the airplane, and it has not changed much through several hundred landings, all 3-point, on hard surface. Since the axle is only supported on the right side, I'm wondering if this wear is normal? Other possibility, of course, is the axle or fork has been bent from some rough treatment. Left side of the tire has a diameter or 5.8 inches; on the right it's only 5.55 inches. If it's normal wear we'll probably just replace the tire; If something is bent, it's probably time to switch to the Lang tailwheel. We have replaced a weak tail spring, but have had no problems with shimmy, tracking or directional control. Any member observations would be appreciated.
