Our Skybolt was originally built by WWII pilot Ralph Schenck who flew recon Spitfires with the RCAF during WWII. It was completed in 1976 and flew for 176 hours before being donated to the Florida Air Museum at Sun-n Fun. It remained on display there until about 2007 when two brothers associated with the EAA chapter in Pineville, Louisiana managed to purchase to purchase it as part of a museum auction.
N47216 was relocated west to Pineville where the new owners proceeded with limited modifications, including the addition of a more contemporary bubble canopy. The project was put up for sale once again in January of 2010, and after a thorough inspection, my father and I became the proud new owners of a Skybolt restoration project.
The restoration of N47126 is in full swing now thatour RV-4 has competed its first successful flight. We're hoping for a 2-3 year turn around before the Skybolt takes to the skies once again.
