Original Plans Built Skybolt

I spoke with a man today (in response for my ad looking for a Skybolt) and he has one from original plans (built in 1977). He mentioned that meant short gear (I knew that) and straight back rear seat. Can somebody please talk to me about the difference in seat backs? I'd assume the more reclined version is prefered? What is required to modify a straight seat back?
