My impressions of 2022
MUCH more trash visible. Dumpsters running over, piles next to over flowing trash cans, lots of trash blowing around
Since Charlie Hillard left the position of "air boss" the air show quality has steadily decreased, this year was no exception. The quality of the acts is down and the announcer position is dreadful.
Food quality - acceptable / food price - tolerable
Vendors - there were lots and business and product quality was good
A little short story here - - we had the pleasure of sharing a picnic table with one of the pilots of the T-6 formation fly-over flights and, another plus, his wife who was an air controller who had also worked Osh. He said a formation flight consumed the better part of a day - pre briefing, main briefing, pre flight, take off - form up time, flying many miles around Osh waiting for their turn to fly over, repeating, landing, taxi, parking, individual post debriefing, group debriefing. And, what did they get for being part of the show that draws in the crowds for EAA to make big $$$ - - - nothing, nada, not even gas money !! And, he told us another story. The gentleman in charge of the warbird area who oversaw everything and kept everything flowing smoothly was lucky enough to be able to pay EAA for his campsite and his electricity.
I cannot verify any of the above, only what I was told but if true there is something drastically wrong with this picture and it may have a lot to do with the declining quality of the airshows.
