Folks, another rookie question:

Looking at a buying a biplane. It’s painted yellow. I’m thinking of making it a “poor man’s Stearman”, would like to paint a red band around the aft fuselage, like this:

Is it ok to just paint right on the yellow? If so, what type paint to minimize cracking (avoid brittle enamel, I think I know that much is correct), what prep work is needed, etc.

Thanks!
