Building a Fisher Tiger moth and very tight for space. Can some one tell me why I need to connect a tube to the static on the airspeed and transponder? Why can't I just leave the back of the instrument open? I understand that in an enclose plane you may have positive pressure, but behind a panel in an open plane would be in nice still air. At the end of the day the stall and other speeds will be set at the flight tests, so inaccuracy doesn't matter so long as they are consistent?
Should point out my first build, only just learned to fly at 70, so no nothing except would like to get rid of some clutter. I have asked a few experienced pilots and it seems to boil down to "we always do it like that" but can't explain why?
