I just reread Budd Davisson's article on the replica of Number One Pitts, and it dawned on me that if Davisson's numbers are right (507 lbs and 45-50 mph stall speed), there is no reason that a low-powered Pitts couldn't be flown by a sport pilot.
I did read the thread on a "Pitts LSA" for sale on Barnstormers in this forum, but does anyone know where I could find a detailed article on how the Number One differed from, say, the S1-C plans sold by Steen Aero?
Also, presumably, some drawings or notes were made when they made the replica...maybe EAA has them?
The idea of a back-to basics, low-powered Pitts really tickles me and I'd like to see how practical the whole idea is.
Cheers,
Matthew
