I am considering replacing the metal Sensenich 74DM6 S5-0-058 prop on my Charger with a wood one.
Two primary reasons I am considering this are:
1. Reduced gyroscopic and inertial forces transmitted to the prop flange and crankshaft. No, I'm not doing hard acro, but this seems to be a potential benefit.
2. CG. Remo Galeazzi built the plane with a slightly extended engine mount. His reason for doing this is that he absolutely didn't want an aft CG condition... as a result, the plane is a little on the nose heavy side, but still withing the envelope. Additionally I found a slight error in the W&B report that points towards an evern further FWD CG condition. Trading out the metal prop for a wood one might help the CG numbers a little bit. (but I have yet to do the calculations).
Any thoughts on performance changes should I change to wood?
Any other thoughts on the subject?
