Rivets on top of the wing

First time cover for an Eagle......Would someone please explain the purpose of the poprivets that appear at the extremities of the centersection (which admittedly is not really a centersection)? Are they there to help hold the fabric down? If they had an aluminum fairing behind them, I could make sense of it. Do they protrude into the cavity behind the plywood top?
