I was on the way to work last night when the radio news started to talk about a plane down, just west of where I live. Turns out, it was a good friend. Don Pellegrino went down in his Rose Parrakeet just after takeoff from the airpark he and his wife, Ann lived on. According to reports, he made one circuit and went down in the field just off the end of the runway. Don did not survive.
Don had the Rose, and also owned the Fairchild XNQ-1. The XNQ lost out to the T-34 for the trainer market. Don's wife, Ann retraced Amelia's around the world flight in 1967, and wrote a book about the adventure.

Please keep Ann and the family in your thoughts.
