Was curious how this departure from the plans would contribute to structural integrity, if at all. Is it more of a redundant safety feature, or an effort to improve strength? I've included some pictures and a video below.

It may also be worth mentioning that both of these planes are from the same general area, Tennessee/Alabama, so perhaps it's a builders trend. If anyone could offer some insight on this "third flying wire", or the builder Jerry Mills, it would be much appreciated.
