So as I scheme about how to get more performance from my airplane, I was looking at a friend's S-1T parked next to my S-2A and an idea formed. Maybe good maybe bad.

For the S-1T the top cowling closes behind the rear cylinders to more smoothly flow into the main fuselage. On the S-2A the top cowling ends abruptly and is open, allowing air to dump out from behind the accessory section.

Both airplanes use the same engine so the cowlings look to be the same width and length.

The S-1T started flying maybe 10 years after the S-2's, so is the S-1T cowling the result of more engineering work?

Does the S-1T cowling have lower drag? Would S-1T top cowling parts fit an S-2A?

Has anyone out there tried this? Mr Morphew? Mr Kimball?

Thanks!

Wes
