I recently had my alternator fail while 500 miles from home. It is a B and C SD-8 standby mounted on the vacuum pump pad. While troubleshooting I disconnected the connector to inspect and clean it. It separated easily, then proceeded to crumble in my hand. Obviously, I found the problem. I called B and C Specialties for a replacement and they said they stopped using the plastic white connector about 8 years ago for the same reason mine failed. I know this is a popular alternator for biplanes, if you still have the original connector, change it out. I’m amazed it stayed together at all.
