Simplified equation for determining weight on mains and tail wheel by moving the main gear axle centerline. <?:namespace prefix = o ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-comfficeffice" />
Solve for T the new tail and main wheel weight from moving the main wheels back toward the tail.
NOTE: ALL DIMENSIONS FOR AIRCRAFT IN LEVEL POSITION
EW x (CG-X) = T Dash â is subtraction
(Y-X)
EW = Empty aircraft weight
CG = Distance from Firewall to CG location (from weight and balance data.)
X = Distance from firewall to main gear axle centerline.
Y = Distance from firewall to tail wheel
T = Tail wheel weight
New main wheels weight = EW â T
For the above case, the Starduster firewall is used as the datum. Use of any other datum will also work. The above equation can be verified by using existing dimensions for your aircraft and verify your main and tail weights do not change.
