I am still going through the process of choosing which biplane to build. The Starduster Too and Skybolt seem to be very similar biplanes. From what I have read both now recommend at least 180 HP engines, although back in the earlier days the recommendation started at 160.
I have seen that some Stardusters have had engines with as few as 120 HP. This got me thinking that maybe a 150 HP Rotec Radial would be a good match with either of these bipes.
Since the skybolt R is specifically for radial engines, I started looking into that, but Steen recommends a 360 HP - 400 HP engine for the R. Does anyone have any thoughts for why that would be? Is it because the mount in the plans only supports one specific engine that comes in that HP range?
Would a 150 HP rotec radial be too small for these biplanes? Rotec will custom build a mount for a price, so I'm thinking that might still be an option.
