Have not been able to fly the last two weeks due to weather
today was a gorgeous winter day with temps around minus 9 Celsius (16 deg F)
got to the hangar and our taxiway had not been cleared,
spent an hour shovelling then pulled out my plane
takeoff was spectacular at 3000 fpm at 90 mph
got to my practice area and went inverted and my thermos style gas cap departed along with five gallons of fuel
That was a first for me and I instinctively ducked as I saw the fuel coming at the windscreen
once upright I lost no more fuel and still had 12 gallons on board
returned to my airport and had probably the best greaser landing ever
what did I learn?
take off with at least 3/4 tank of fuel
thermos style gas caps are not as retentive in winter
fly the plane
concentrate more on my landings as the adrenaline must have sharpened my senses, I wish every landing could be like that
I love this little bird
