Good evening all,

New member here. I am in the process of purchasing my first Pitts and was recommended here by Devon York.

I have the opportunity to buy a S-1S that has a set of Sparcraft wings. The owner stopped flying the aircraft a few years ago after finding a crack on an angle block/gusset that attaches to the front wing spar at the fuselage attach point on the left wing.

My questions is what is the purpose of this gusset block? Just added strength? Is gusset structural in any way? It appears that normal Sparcraft wings don’t have this gusset installed?

Does anyone have photos of naked Sparcraft wings in the area in question?

Pics enclosed-

Thanks I’m advance for the help.

-Andy
