    • In addition to our active community, our content boasts exhaustive technical information which is often sought after for projects and maintenance. This information has accumulated over the 12+ years the forum has been in existence.
    • We are also a great resource for non biplane users, since many GA aircraft are built the same way (fabric and tube construction).
    • Annual membership also comes with two BiplaneForum.com decals.

Hi folks

Thanks to everyone that answered my previous post. Nothing in the replies has yet dissuaded me. I did wonder about the reasons behind non-completion rates. My guess is that many folks came across a completed aircraft and gave up on building in favour of having something now (I did that with my RV8 - lucky I never started building!). I also expect that there are a few that either become too old or too ill to finish. Importantly though, I don't get a strong sense that people start building and then find that they are completely incapable of the task.

My next task is to get project funding from the minister for war and finance. I've attached a PDF of a spreadsheet that I've knocked up. I'm curious about how wide of arc I am on my estimates. In summary I have estimated a total cost (AUD$) of about $120K over ten years. It is based on the following assumptions:
- Includes workshop and some tooling additions
- Scratch build fuse and empennage (OA welding)
- Wing materials, hardware, wires, brackets, finishing components (nosebowl, canopy) etc. from Steen
- Expired O/IO360 that I will overhaul under supervision
- Fixed pitch prop
- Basic avionics plus ADSB

Feel free to comment/criticise/tear it apart!
