I've been working on installing the trail wheel on my Pitts S1C. I have two tail wheel springs. A used one and a new one I purchased from Aviat. The used one fits the airplane beautifully. The one from Aviat does not fit very well though I could make some parts so that it did. I like the used spring better because it fits the airplane perfectly and places the tail wheel about 3" farther aft than the Aviat one. The problem, at least I think it's a problem, is that it holds the bottom end of the vertical fin tail post 15 1/2" off the floor. This seems high to me, don't know because I have nothing to compare it to. So decided to take everything off and install the Aviat spring. With the Aviat spring the bottom end of the tail post is actually 1/4" more or 15 3/4" off the floor. Both springs have the same arc and hold the pivot bolt of the tail wheel exactly vertical as should be. I'm using a 6" Aviation products tail wheel.
Can anyone with a S1 Pitts tell me how high the bottom end of your vertical fin tail post is off the floor.

Thanks in advance.
