I have built 2 ribs so far, and I did my due diligence with my test pieces for each glue batch - T88. I decided to test the first one. It failed at the glue joint, not the wood.
I built the test piece by using a 1/2" by 2" piece of 1/16" ply, and glued a piece of 1/4" cap strip to it. I stapled it into place as I am with my rib construction. To test it, I put the ply into a vise edgewise, cap strip sticking up so I could hit the cap strip with a hammer. I took a small piece of wood up against the cap strip and hit it with a hammer. This should test the glue joint in shear. I really hope I did something wrong with my test method. I have enough trophy ribs already in my collection.
